  5. Label your quilt!

why finishing your quilt is (sometimes) hard

Back when I first started quilting, I was totally absorbed by it. I’d just had a newborn baby, so my sleep cycles were crazy, and I’d be up all night quilting, snatching any time I could while my baby was asleep

I LOVED the fast buzz of my machine, whooshing through the fabric, piecing everything left and right, hitting those points. Bliss!

But then things would come to a screeching halt. I had done all this hard work, and now it was time to ‘finish my quilt’.

Well, what exactly was I supposed to do?

The instructions just said, “make a sandwich, baste, quilt ‘as desired’ and bind”.

I wasn’t hungry, so I didn’t make a sandwich.

I sure as heck wasn’t going to start roasting something in the oven at midnight just so I could baste it.

And ‘as desired’ – I didn’t know what I wanted!

Ever had that feeling when going through a set of instructions where all of a sudden the rug is whipped out from underneath you and you’re like wait, What??
