design your own quilts + unleash your creative potential

What would it look like if I designed my own quilt?

Alright, let’s go deep for a minute…  (and I promise this will relate to design and quilting in just a little moment…)

What do you want from life?

Are you happy doing what you’re doing?

Or are you out there in the middle of the night seeking solutions on the internet?

Do you go down deep rabbit holes, searching for… something… ?

If you’re a quilter, you might think this itch could be scratched by learning a new technique or making another quilt…
But after the Nth quilt and you’ve still got that itch… what do you do?

You’re still seeking. But, what?

a new challenge. a new time horizon.

This is where you start thinking, hey, but so far all I’ve done is make quilts that OTHER people have designed, or followed instructions that OTHER people gave me.

Isn’t this what I’ve been doing my whole life? Following instructions?

What would it look like if I started making my OWN quilts. No double checking, no second guessing  – am I doing the right thing? Is this going to look exactly like the picture? Is this going to match the picture on the box?

What would it look like if I designed my own quilt?

What would it look like if I FINALLY got around to getting that idea that’s been floating around in my head down onto paper… and actually cut some fabric and sewed it…

What if…

but then those doubts flood in again…

Could I really do this?

Is my design even that good? I mean it’s OK, it’s good, but it’s not great.

Where do I even start?

Do I need special grid paper? Or dot paper? Or plain paper?

Shouldn’t I be doing this on the computer?

But what software should I be using?

I don’t know how to use those programs.

Oh this is hopeless. I give up.

what if…

… there was a system, a set of steps that could take you from where you are now…

in doubt, going round in circles… second guessing yourself…

To… clarity, certainty, confidence.

What would THAT look like?

I’ll tell you…

It looks like having a system to come up with and develop unique design ideas.

How does that help? By giving you the confidence that, yes! YOU can consistently come up with design ideas for quilts. That YES, YOU can do this too.

this is the first step.

This system helps you…

  • Build confidence: THIS is how you do it, these are the steps to take >> now I understand what I need to do…
  • Create something unique: this is MY idea, I didn’t copy it from someone else, it’s different than what I’ve seen before
  • Find your voice: it represents me, it’s my idea out of my head and onto paper…
  • Grow: we’re all out there seeking – learn more about yourself by exploring YOUR creative side.

This is the first step in a wider framework. Design, Write, Sell.

This first step – DESIGN – is an important one: it takes you from no idea to YOUR idea. From that internal scramble of ideas to ONE idea.

From doubt, fear, uncertainty, to clarity, confidence, certainty.

are you ready to take this step?

To start discovering YOUR creative voice, to start expressing YOUR ideas, to stop following other people’s instructions and start following your path?

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Maybe you’re like many women – you’ve been the carer, always looking after other people. Your kids, your spouse, your parents.

Is it time you MAKE the time for you? And if now is not the time for that, when is?

are you waiting for a sign?

For the wakeup to come? For the tap on the shoulder?

This is that sign. This is that call. This is me tapping you on the shoulder and saying, come on, let’s go do this. It’s time.

Let’s get started.

Stay tuned for the next instalment where I talk about how to develop that unique design idea.
